Fairbank: Ivan Hesse age 63 passed away on Monday May 18 at Manor Care Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo following a short illness. Ivan was born September 19, 1951 the son of Melvin and Janola (Hartman) Hesse in Waterloo, IA. He attended school at Wapsie Valley Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1969. After high school Ivan worked at John Deere and retired from there in 2002 after 31 years of employment, after his retirement from John Deere, Ivan continued to farm. Ivan was a member of the Cedar Wapsi Coon Hunters Association and loved golfing with his Tuesday morning golf league.

Survived by: three brothers; Mike (Glenda) Hesse, Lonny (Barb) Hesse and Brian Hesse all of Fairbank, three sisters; Nancy (Rick) Happel of Dunkerton, Becky (Doug) Lindsay of Masonville and Dianna (John) Griese of Fairbank along with many nieces and nephews.

Services: 10:30 am Friday, May 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fairbank

Visitation: 4-7 pm Thursday, May 21 at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank and for one hour before services Friday at the church.

Fairbank: Lucile Judisch age 93 passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Grandview Care Center in Oelwein, IA. She had been suffering from dementia, osteoporosis and eventually succumbed to congestive heart failure. She was born the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Nichols) Moehlis on December 7, 1921 in Sumner, IA. She was baptized February 15, 1922 at Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner. She attended country school and parochial school in Buck Creek. On September 23, 1941 she was united in marriage to Erwin Judisch of Buck Creek. Lucile and Erwin farmed near Buck Creek for 42 years and then moved to Fairbank in 1983. Lucile was admitted to Grandview Care Center in September of 2007 and resided there until her death. Lucile loved life on the farm including the work that comes with it, she also enjoyed embroidering. She will be remembered for her love of laughter and her love of cats and dogs.

Survived by: three daughters; Karen Kay (Al) Richards of Alpha, Janice Jean Judisch of Waterloo and Brenda Beth Kerns of Fairbank. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Jason Zander, Chris Richards and Deanna Mueterthies along with four great-grandchildren; Abby Richards, Hannah Richards, Nathan Mueterthies and Marisa Mueterthies.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband Ervin in 1988, a brother Lester Moehlis in 1997, a sister Gladys Rieck in 2010 and a son-in-law Bill Kerns in 2011.

Services: 10:30 am Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, IA

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, April 3 at Woods Funeral Home and for one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Interment: Fairbank Cemetery, Fairbank, IA

Fairbank: Joan Jeanette Heineman age 79 passed away March 20, 2015 at the Denver Sunset Home of natural causes. She was born May 19, 1935 the daughter of Peter and Ida (Engel) Staack at their home near Hawkeye, IA. Joan attended  and graduated from Oran High School. She married Duane Heineman May 24, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank, IA, they made their home in rural Oran where they raised their six daughters. Joan and Duane lived on the farm until 2005 when they moved to Parkview Assisted Living in Fairbank, Duane passed away on July 27, 2006.

Survived by: six daughters; Linda VanDaele of Jesup, Terri (Bob) Mudd of Walker Debbie (Larry) Saurbrei of Readlyn, Cheryl (Al) Dancer of Denver, Lori (Bill) Hoskyn of Solan and Michelle Ragsdale (Rex Helfrich) of Washington, 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren, one sister; Helen (Merlyn) Cummings of Santa Barbara, CA and one sister-in-law; Margaret Staack of Oran.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband, one grandson; Ryan Ragsdale, two sisters and their husbands; Arlene (Ray) Roete and Evelyn (Milton) Potratz and one brother; Lavern Staack.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 24 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Woods Funeral Home and for one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Fairbank: Teresa Ann Cushion age 65 passed away Monday, March 2 2015 after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born September 24, 1949 the daughter of Joseph and Virginia (Biggelow) Miller in Oelwein, Iowa. She married Allen (Bugs) Cushion March 11, 1972 at the Methodist Church in Fayette Iowa and together they had three children, Traci, Travis and Eric. Teresa worked at Bellis Insurance Agency in Fairbank as an agent and also a secretary for 21 years.

Survived by: her husband; Al (Bugs), two sons; Travis Cushion of Fairbank and Eric Cushion of La Crosse, WI

FAIRBANK-Patrick (Pat) L. Shannon died on Sunday February 15th at his home in Fairbank of cancer.

He was born on August 23, 1946 at rural Fairbank, Iowa , son of Daniel and Veronica (Weber) Shannon.

He graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School, Fairbank in 1964.  Went into the U.S.Army on November 01, 1965 discharged on November 01, 1967.

He married Susan Kleitsch  on September 18, 1971 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, Iowa.

After working for 33 years at Deere and Company in Waterloo he retired.  He then worked for the Isle of Capri in Marquette for 5 years.

Survived by: his wife: Susan, daughter: Kimberly (Terry Kupka) Shannon, Holt Missouri, two sons: Christopher (Kara) Shannon of Charles City and Trevor (Mandy) Shannon of Burnsville, Minnesota.  Six grandchildren: Aidan, Garet, Emry, Aislynn, Andrea and Asher. Two sisters: Colleen (Joe) Bovy of Fairbank and Marian (Pat) Woods of Jesup.  Two brothers: Dale (Dorothy) Shannon of Raymond and Dan (Deanna) Shannon of Waterloo.

Preeceded in Death by: his parents, one daughter Andrea and his father in-law Norbert Kleitsch.

Services:  at 10:30 am. on Thursday, February 19, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank.  Visitation on Wednesday at the funeral home from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation also an hour before services at the  funeral home on Thursday.

Burial: in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank. Graveside Military Rites conducted by Fortsch-Duffy Post 552 of Fairbank.

Memorials: in lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be given to the American Cancer Society (Hope Lodge), Fairbank American Legion Veterans Park or to the family.

Westgate: Bryan R. Schellhorn age 57 died suddenly at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, Sunday February 8, 2015. Bryan was born April 16, 1957 in Sumner, the son of Lorenz and Virginia (Tonn) Schellhorn, he attended Wapsie Valley Community Schools and graduated in 1975. In 1981 he married Susan Kane and they later divorced. For the past 19 years he has lived with his common-law wife Leslie DeVore. Bryan has been in the insurance business for 30 years working as an agent for Ozark National Life.

Survived by: his common-law wife; Leslie, one step-son; Blake DeVore of Cedar Falls, one step-daughter; Mary (Nathan) Baxter of Columbia, MO, his parents; Lorenz and Virginia Schellhorn of Oran, one brother; Don (Deb) Schellhorn of Oelwein, two sisters; Catherin (Melvin Sr.) Gonnerman of Waverly and Marlys (Roger) Boelyn of Oelwein, his best friend; Mark Owens and his dog; Attitude.

Fairbank: Joan Carol Moulds age 79 passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 31st 2015.  She was born October 6th 1935 the daughter of Kyle and Iva (Beckner) Keniston in Oelwein Iowa.  Joan married Charles D. Moulds May 10th 1957 in Elkader Iowa.  Joan enjoyed cooking, as did everyone else enjoy her cooking.  She also loved her grandchildren and her animals, especially her dog Reba. She practiced her faith on Sundays at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Survived by: Her husband Charles, one son; Ronald (Kelle), two daughters; LaDell (Jim) McCabe and Susan (Kelly) Ryan, five grandchildren; Michael Ryan, Elizabeth (Ivan) Escobedo, Rachael (Patrick) Murray, Keith (Kate) Ryan, and Staci Moulds, six great grandchildren, two sisters;  Kay (Walt) Schwartz and Mary (Eldon) Marting.

Preceded by; Her parents, one brother James Keniston and one sister Donna Jo Keniston in infancy.

Fairbank: Mary Sue Beierschmitt age 65 passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at ABCM Rehabilitation Center in Independence after a brief illness. She was born on June 11, 1949 the daughter of Ralph and Frances “Billie” (Barlow) Beierschmitt in Independence. Mary Sue attended elementary school at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Fairbank, she then attended River Hills School in Waterloo, there she received he GED. Mary Sue loved going to work at Goodwill Industries, she worked there for more than 30 years. For the past eight years she enjoyed going to the Davis Adult Day Center in Independence. She also loved to travel and she visited many different states in the U.S. including Hawaii.

Survived by: three brothers; James Beierschmitt of Marshaltown, Don (Brenda) Beierschmitt of Jesup and Bill (Mary) Beierschmitt of Fairbank, one sister-in-law; Judy Beierschmitt of Quinlan, TX, nieces and nephews; Bob (Caryn) Beierschmitt, Dan (Susan) Beierschmitt, Jeff Beierschmitt, Tom (Serena) Beierschmitt, Cindy Simmons, Susie (Johnny) Williamson, LuAnne Aaron, Edward (Michele)Beierschmitt, Brandon (Erin) Beierschmitt, Nicole (Jeramy) Siems, Heather (Jason) Brodie, Eric (Carissa) Beierschmitt and Kathy Beierschmitt along with 34 great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

Jesup: Galen Duffy age 54 passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Davita Dialysis Center in Waterloo following a lengthy illness. He was born September 23, 1960 the son of Aloysius and Patricia (Cavanaugh) Duffy in Waterloo. Galen grew up on a farm southwest of Fairbank and attended Wapsie Valley Schools graduating in 1979. In 1991 he met Bonnie Hill and they were married on September 2, 2006 in Waterloo. Galen worked as a CNC machinist for 20 years, he was a member of the Fairbank Jaycees and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church also in Fairbank.

Survived by: his wife, two sons; Derek Bate and fiancée Stephanie Lee of Waterloo and Curtis Bate of Jesup, three grandchildren; Riley, Anika and Madison, one brother; Pat (Sherry) Duffy of Erie, IL, two sisters; Collen (Darold) Matthias of Sumner and Kathy (Duffy) Volker of Fairbank.

Readlyn: Mary Ann Ryan age 60 passed away on Thursday January 1, 2015 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Mary Ann was born July 26, 1954 in Pocahontas the daughter of Harold and Jean (Reis) Reigelsberger. She married Michael Ryan on June 5, 1976 in Humboldt, IA. Mary Ann worked many years in the legal profession and in the banking industry assisting clients with legal and financial needs, she worked in Ames, Springfield, IL, Waterloo and Cedar Falls during her career.

Survived by: her father, her husband, two sons; Adam Ryan of Minneapolis, MN and Aaron (Vicky) Ryan of Readlyn, one daughter; Megan Ryan of Ankeny, two sisters; Carolyn Morgan of Minneapolis, MN and Delores (George) Pomeroy of Dakota City, one brother; Dale Reigelsberger of Humboldt.

Preceded by: her mother; Jean Reigelsberger and a brother; Johnny Reigelsberger.
