She was born August 1, 1929 in Primghar, Iowa the daughter of John and Beatrice Gately Hauptly.

Phyllis married Gerhard Kuenstling April 16, 1961 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Dunkerton, he died June 28, 1985. Phyllis was a Registerd Nurse and worked in the OB Department at Allen Hospital for 17 years.

Survived by: two sons; Ken (Deanne) Kuenstling and Kevin Kuenstling both of Dunkerton, 12 grandchildren; Mary (Dennis) Snead of Ft. Stockton, TX, Bill (Pam) Faust of Oceanside, CA, Brian (Susie) Moulds of Dunkerton, Niki Moulds of Dunkerton, Dustin (Angie) Moulds of Readlyn, Danny (Andrea) Moulds of Cedar Falls, Kyle (Whitney) Kuenstling of Cedar Rapids, Keith Kuenstling of Dunkerton,Bethany (TJ Anderson) Kuentsling of Dunkerton, Devin (Kym Kruse) Kuenstling of Dunkerton, Shelby Kuenstling of Dunkerton and Kory Kuenstling of Dunkerton, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband and 2 brothers; Dale and Carroll Hauptly, a half-brother; Lester Gately, a half-sister; Reba Steffens and 2 step-daughters; Karen Faust and Karla Moulds.

Services: Saturday, January 4, 2014 @ 10:30 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bennington Township.

Visitation: Friday, January 3 from 3-7 pm at Woods Funeral Home and for one hour before services at the church.

Sherry WeberFairbank- Sherry Ann Weber, of Fairbank, died Monday, December 9, 2013.

She was born December 17, 1969 at Waterloo, Iowa daughter of Aloysius John and Patricia Ann (Cavanaugh) Duffy.  She graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in 1988.

She married Francis Weber on June 5, 1999 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Survived by: her husband Francis, one son: Joshua, one daughter: Alexis and one step-daughter: Alyssa.  Two brothers: Pat (Sherry) Duffy of Erie, IL, Galen (Bonnie) Duffy of Littleton.  Two sisters: Colleen (Darold) Matthias of Sumner and Kathy Volker of Fairbank along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded by: her parents, and grandparents, one brother: Dennis Duffy and a niece Carrie Matthias.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 13, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with burial in the Church Cemetery.  Public visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. all at the funeral home.

George Schares picDUNKERTON-George Louis Schares of  Dunkerton, died Monday, October 7.

He was born on November 6, 1945 at Waterloo, son of Norbert and Leona Meier Schares.

He married Marlene Miller and was later divorced. Married Sandra Bagg and they later divorced.

He retired in 1996 from John Deere and Company after 3o years of employment.

Survived by: two daughters: Lisa (Stan) Talaska of Janesville and LeAnn (Mark) Kelly of Hudson.  Five grandchildren: Nicole Talaska (Adam), Blake Talaska, Grant Kelly, Wyatt Kelly and Mac Kelly.  One great grandson, Bentley Cosby.  Four brothers: Mike (Amanda) Schares, Jeff (Deb) Schares, Andy (Donna) Schares and Bill Schares  of Dunkerton.  Eight sisters: Pat (Jim) Ehr of Independence, Joann (Bill) Weber, Dorothy (Dennis) Adamson, and Marge (Rich) Grady  of Dunkerton. Marilyn Steggall and Carol (Lauren) Brandt of Fairbank. Joyce Rubalcaba of Stockton, CA. and Jeanette (Kevin) Steffen of Waterloo.

Preceeded in death by: his parents, one son, Edward Schares, one brother; Tom Schares and one brother in-law, Ronnie Steggall.

Services: at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Barclay, with burial in the church cemetery.  Public visitation on Friday, October 11 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m.

Fairbank: Susan Miller age 53 passed away at her home on Friday September 20 of natural causes.

She was born on June 1, 1960 in Waterloo the daughter of Melvin & Elsie Habenicht Miller. Susan graduated from Oelwein High School in 1978. After high school she worked at Rath Packing until it closed and Bertch Cabinetry she also worked at various other places until she was forced to retire due to health reasons.

Survived by: her daughter Tiffany Miller of Ames, one brother; Mike Miller of Fairbank, two sisters; Marlene (John) Higgins of Waterloo and Patty Clement of Charles City along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded by: her parents, two brothers; Gary Jones and Tim MIller and a nephew Edward Schares.

Services: Tuesday, September 20 @ 10:30 am at Woods Funeral Home

Visitation: Monday, September 19 from 4-7 pm with a 4:00 pm rosary.

Burial: at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank

Memorials: to be directed to her daughter Tiffany.

Fairbank:Dean Schoonover age 64 passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at the V.A. Medical Center in Iowa City of natural causes.

He was born on July 7, 1949 in Savanna, IL the son of Robert & Shirley(Gravaat) Schoonover. Dean graduated from East High School in Waterloo, IA, he was  then in the U.S. Navy for 2 years. Dean married Linda Tovar on June 22, 1968 and they were later divorced. On December 24, 1998 Dean married Janet Mills. He worked for the Chicago Central Railroad retiring in 1996 for health reasons.

Survived by; his wife Janet, five sons; Shad Schoonover of Evansville, IN, John Trimble of Independence, Andy (Roxanne) Trimble of LaPorte City, Richard (Kris) Trimble of Aplington and Philip (Lani) Trimble of Shell Rock, six daughters; Shannon (Steve) Miller of Princeton, IN, Shawna (Ben) Buckley of Waterloo, Bonnie (Chris) Chazotte of Asheville, NC, Charlotte (Jack) Teetsel of Cadillac, MI, LaDonna (Jeremy) Langstraat of Pleasantville, IA and Kayleen Trimble of Fairbank, 24 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Linda (Dean) Bishop of  Waterloo and Marsha (Lee) Heidt of Cedar Rapids.

Preceded by; his parents Robert & Shirley Schoonover and a son Shane Schoonover.

Services; Friday, September 20, 2013 at 11:00 am at Woods Funeral Home.

Wayne Henry Siggelkow

Wayne Siggelkow pic.Fairbank; Wayne Henry Siggelkow age 84, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Wayne was a successful farmer, an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and conservationist.

He resided on the Wapsie Circle S Ranch near Fairbank, Iowa all of his life, where he built his home featuring a room with a view of the prarie sunsets. Born January 12, 1929 to Emory and Mabel (Niebuhr) Siggelkow. He served in the Army Ready Reserve (active status) during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and transferred to the Army Reserve (rifle division) until 1957. Wayne married Arnola Wendland on June 26, 1955, and raised three daughters.

In addition to crops, his farming operation included hogs and cattle. Wayne introduced Scotch Highland cattle to Iowa and for many years maintained the largest fold in the midwest. One of his many passions was hunting, including expeditions to Alaska, Canada and the Western states during which he bagged a moose, caribou and a Kodiak bear with his antique muzzleloader. He was a great conservationist and steward of the land. He shared his love of wildlife and fishing with his eleven grandchildren. Wayne enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and several foreign countries.

Wayne was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Fairbank Historical Society, the American Legion, the Iowa 4-H Foundation and several agricultural, conservation and wildlife organizations. He enjoyed playing cards and hosting Fourth of July celebrations for family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arnola; daughters Carol (Steven) Risting, Indianapolis, IN; Jane (Jeffrey) Stautz, Indianapolis, IN and Mary Beth (Ravi) Alagar, Pittsburgh, PA; and eleven grandchildren; Jonathan and Jennnifer Risting; Amy, Andrew and Alan (AJ) Stautz; Saraswati, Rajan, Krishnan, Indra, Jaya, and Balaji Alagar; sisters Bernice Branon, Lucedale, MS and Norma Ivey, Willis, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fairbank, Iowa with burial in the Fairbank Cemetery with military rites conducted by Fortsch Duffy Post 552 of Fairbank. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 29 from 4-7 p.m. at Woods Funeral Home in Fairbank, Iowa and for 1 hour before services at the church.

James Goeller picture 2FAIRBANK- James W. Goeller of Fairbank, passed away Thursday, July 25, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born September 29, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Herbert and Dorthy (Lentz) Goeller.

Jim graduated from Wapsie Valley Community School in 1965 and Upper IOwa University in 1970.  He taught science and social studes and coached at West Branch Community Schools for four years.  He worked at Smitty’s Tire and Appliance, Cedar Falls for many years.  He then worked at Cedar Falls Schools as bus mechanic and bus driver.  He moved on to Oelwein Community Schools as transporation director, retiring in 2009.  Most recently, he drove school bus for Wapsie Valley Community Schools.

Survived by: his wife, Bonnie, one daughter, Kay of Des Moines.  Three sons, Robert (Nancy) of Fairbank, Gary (Sara) of Oelwein and John of Fairbank.  5 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents, a brother Douglas and a grandson, Michael.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30th at St Peters Lutheran Church, Oran, Iowa, with burial in the Fairbank Cemetery.  Public visitation on Monday, July 29 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. Also one hour befores services at the church.

He was born on June 8, 1940 the son of Halley and Hazel (Fransham)Steggall in Waterloo. Ronnie married Marilyn Schares on May 4, 1963 in Fairbank at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He worked at Deere & Company for 33 years retiring on June 30, 1998.

Survived by; his wife, Marilyn, two daughters; Traci (Jeff) Magsamen of Janesville, Kelli (Bob Stueven) of Mizpah, MN. eight grandchildren; Jordan, Taylor and Jacob Boevers, Adnew and Mitike Stueven, Robert, Jerome and Katie Magsamen, one great granddaughter; Eden Magsamen and two sisters; Betty (Ray) Chase of Prarie du Chien, WI. and Pat Weyer of Warrensburg, MO.

Services; 10:30 am Thursday July 18, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Visitation; from 3-7 pm on Wednesday with a parish rosary at 3:30 pm.

Ronnie loved and lived life to the fullest with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours fishing and in the woods. His ever-present smile and sense of humor gained him a life full of great friends.

Joseph W. Miller

Joeseph Miller picFairbank; Joe Miller age 94 passed away Monday July 8 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

He was born on September 11, 1918 in Fairbank the son of Frank and Margaret (Nuebel) Miller. Joe graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1935 and was a member of the first graduating class of Loras College in Dubuque in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medic during WWII and also served in the Korean War.

He married Lois Rastatter on May 2, 1953 at St. Columbkille’s in Dubuque, IA. Joe owned and operated Miller Plumbing and Heating since 1945. His last day of work was July 1, 2013. He thoroughly enjoyed his days at the store visiting with customers, playing freecell on the computer and watching Chicago Cubs baseball. He was a member and former Chief of the Fairbank Fire Department, member of the Fairbank Community Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Fairbank Historical Society and was a usher and eucharistic minister at I.C. Parish.

Survived by; his wife; Lo-E, six children; Joe (Jeanne) of White Bear Lake, MN. Jane (Hal) Holder of St. Peters, MO. Pat (Lynn) of Fairbank, Greg (Shelli)of Davenport, Barb (Tim) Klopfenstein of Washington, and John (Jo) of Davenport, one sister-in-law Lillian Miller of Detroit, MI. 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.

Joe lived a life of service to his faith, family and community and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Preceded by; his parents and step- mother; Gertrude Miller, three brothers; Paul (Jule) Miller, Frank Miller Jr. and Arnold (Mary Jo) Coffin, three sisters; Margaret (Leonard) Duffy, Mary Schafer and Sr. Mary Francelyn Miller.

Hazel (Ziegler) Stoll picBrighton, CO. Hazel M. (Ziegler) Stoll formerly from Fairbank, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at her home in Brighton.

She was born December 11, 1934 in Westgate, IA. the daughter of William and Dorothy (Waligorski) Ziegler. She grew up on the family farm in Iowa, attending country schools and graduating from Oelwein High School in 1952. She also graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Upper Iowa University and entered the teaching profession. She taught in elementary schools in Cresco, Postville, Rawlins,Wyoming and taught at Oelwein Elementary School for 26 years before retiring in 1991. Hazel married Hank Stoll in 2006 and moved to Brighton, CO. where she was impressed by the view of Pikes Peak and the entire front range of the mountains from her home.

Survived by; her husband, one brother; Donald Ziegler of Oelwein, one sister; Darlene Holt of Wadena, one step-son; David Stoll of Lupton, CO. one step-daughter; Mardie Stoll of Brush, CO. seven step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded by; her parents, three brothers; Harold, Henry and William Ziegler and a sister-in-law; Faye Ziegler.

Services; 10;00 am Wednesday, July 9, 2013 at St. William Catholic Church in Fort Lupton, CO.

Memorial Service; 10:00am Saturday at Woods Funeral Home in Fairbank
