 Berniece “Bee” Haun age 88 of Marion and formerly of Dunkerton passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones after a five year battle with dementia. Bee was born October 16, 1929 in Chickasaw County, Iowa the daughter of August and Sophie (Spear) Zell. She attended school in Waterloo, IA. On June 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to Charlie Haun at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank, IA. To this union five children were born, four daughters and one son. Besides being a homemaker and raising five children Bee was always keeping busy outside of her everyday routine such as leading a  detasseling crew for 16 years and helping at the church whenever needed. Bee also was a Scout Leader, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital and at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant. Bee enjoyed playing cribbage, sewing and baking. She loved flowers, collecting spoons and traveling, she traveled to every state in the continental United States by car except for Alaska and she did fly to Hawaii. But most of all Bee loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Bee is survived by her three daughters; Darlene Farrell of Whittier, IA, Marlene (Ray) Bussey of Roscoe, IL and Lois (Steve) Snyder of Marion, IA, one son; Russell Haun of Rockton, IL, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Jerry Johnson of Clinton, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Harold Zell, one daughter, Sharon Bergeron and two great-grandchildren; Jonathan Jarmon at infancy and Gabe Haun.

Services: 2:00 pm Saturday May 19, 2018 at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm Friday May 18, 2018 at the funeral home.

Interment: Grove Hill Cemetery in rural Bremer County.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

  4. I have many great memories of Bee, she was always there for our family, helping at graduations, weddings, visiting my mom and us all, playing cribbage, she and my mom taught me how to play. An old neighbor, part of our extended family! God bless her soul!

  8. Your mom was definitely a sweetie!! Sharon and I spent lots of time at your house together!! When my mom died, I ran to your mom and she knew just how to comfort me! I am forever grateful for your mom’s friendship!! Rest In Peace, sweet Bee!!

  10. RIP, Bee – I remember you fondly! As a kid, you were the “craft” person for vacation bible school at St. John’s Lutheran Church; as a teenager, you were the gracious host when I spent hours with your daughter, Darlene, before we went to dances at Janesville and other places. What a merry soul you were! Sorry I missed your funeral–it sure would be nice to see all of your family again.
