Shirley M. Rechkemmer

Shirley Mae Rechkemmer age 95 passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein. She was born January 30th 1929 in Waterloo the daughter of Alma and Margarite (Harn) Hodges. Shirley grew up in Fairbank, she attended and graduated from Fairbank High School. She married Roy “Peach” Rechkemmer at Immaculate Conception Church in Fairbank. Shirley began her working career at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo as a secretary she then worked for many years at Curley’s Locker in Fairbank and after that she did housekeeping for others. Shirley was a very good seamstress, tackling various projects for others including wedding gowns. She was a longtime member of the Fairbank American Legion Ladies Auxillary and enjoyed volunteering at different events held at the legion.

Survived by: two sons; Carl (Marilyn) Rechkemmer of Fairbank and Casey Rechkemmer (Lori Kamp) of Oelwein, five grandchildren; Chris (Carrie) Rechkemmer, Megan (Dave) Gilson, Shane (Jessica) Rechkemmer, Dr. Stephanie (Bryan Sanders) Beesecker and Scott (Jessi) Rechkemmer, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband. one son John Rechkemmer, one daughter-in-law, Beth Rechkemmer and one great-granddaughter, Mavery Grover.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Fairbank Fire Department or the Fairbank American Legion.
