DUANE “CHICK” L. HARTMAN

scan_pic0009Fairbank-Duane “Chick” L. Hartman of Fairbank, died Tuesday, August 2, at his home at rural Fairbank of heart and kidney failure.

He was born on May 17, 1930 in Bremer County,  Readlyn, Iowa, son of Edward and Irene (Staack) Hartman.

He attended grade school in Klinger and graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1948.  After school he worked for B&J Ready Mix in Dunkerton for 12 years.  Served in th U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. Then went to John Deere in Waterloo, and worked there for 21 years as a Divisional Supervisor.  He had farmed all of his life.

He married Joyce Campbell on August 7, 1955, at the Presbyterian Church in Jesup.

Survived by: his wife, Joyce; one son, Harlan (Deb) Hartman of Fairbank.  Two daughters, Barb Boevers of Readlyn and Brenda (Dan) Salisbury of Dunkerton.  Ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  One brother, Loren Hartman; and one brother in-law Virgil Hesse, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents, Ed and Irene Hartman, a son, Dean Hartman, son in-law, Dan Boevers and two grandsons, Baby Boevers and Bryce Grimm. A sister and Brother-in-law Janola and Melvin Hesse also a sister Lois Hesse.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Westgate, Iowa, with burial in the Fairbank Cemetery.  Public visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and one hour before the services Saturday at the Church.

ESTHER C. KRAFT

scan_pic0026FAIRBANK: Esther C. Kraft died Wednesday July 27 at Parkview Assisted Living in Fairbank of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 28, 1918 in Fairbank, Iowa the daughter of Gustav and Ida (Kundy) Neuman.

She married Marshall Kraft January 10, 1936 in Waterloo Iowa.

Survived by: 1 daughter Chloe (Richard) Hewitt of East Moline Ill. 1 granddaughter Candace(David) Sountris of Moline Ill. 2 great-grandsons Jared & Ethan, 1 sister Wilma Hake of Lake Mills Wi.

Preceeded by: Her husband Marshall in 1988 along with several sisters and brothers.

Services: Private family services, with no visitation.

Burial: Fairbank Cemetery

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank Ia.

RODNEY M BRANT

scan_pic0023Fairbank-Rodney M Brant, of Leland, Iowa formerly of Fairbank, Iowa, died Friday, July 15, at his home.

He was born August 16, 1960 in Oelwein, Iowa, son of Milon and Thelma (Fortsch)  Brant.

He married Lisa Mohlis on August 16, 1991 at Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Survived by:  his wife, Lisa Brant.  Two sons, Matthew of Leland, and Marcus of Forest City.Two sisters, Rebecca (Duane) Bremer of Tripoli and Rachel Skvor of Cedar Rapids. Sister in-law, Becky Brant of  Fairbank.  Mother in-law, Daryls Mohlis of Waverly.  Many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by:  his parents, Milon and Thelma Brant, one brother, Robert Brant and one nephew Sargent Josh Skvor.

Services: memorial services at 10:30 a.m.  on Tuesday, July 19, at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, with inurnment in the Fairbank Cemetery.  Family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, and an hour before services.

Gerald Edward Urban

Fairbank-Gerald E. Urban of Fairbank formerly of the Fort Dodge area, died Friday, July 8,2011 at Cedar Falls, Iowa of  lung cancer.

He was born  at Fort Dodge, Iowa, son of, Clarence and Ruth (Sheaker) Urban.

Survived by: one daughter, Gwen Landin of Cedar Falls. Two sons, Gary (Tammy) Urban of Malcom, Iowa and Damon (Larisa) Urban of Sumtee, South Carolina.  Eight grandchildren.

Preceded in death by:  his parents, Clarence and Ruth Urban and one brother, Norman Urban.  One sister, Carolyn Urban.

Services: Celebration of Life will be on Friday, July 22 at Parkview Assisted Living,  114 Forest St., Fairbank.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorial may be directed to the family.

He was born on March 16, 1965, at Sumner, Iowa, son of Kenneth and AnnEtta (Bockhaus) Mohlis.

He graduated from Wapsie Valley High School, Fairbank in 1983.  He attended Hawkeye Tech. for auto body repair.  He was  in partnership with his brother in B&K Automotive in Fairbank.

Survived by:  his parents, Kenneth and AnnEtta Mohlis of Fairbank. One sister, Kathy (Brian) Ehlert of Bricelyn, MN., one brother, Brien (Jan) Mohlis of Fairbank.  Three nieces, Megan and Melany Ehlert, Delaney Mohlis.  Three nephews, Corey and Connor Ehlert and Tanner Mohlis.

Preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, Alfred and Gertrude Bockhaus and paternal grandparents, John and Mable Mohlis. 

Services at: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fairbank, with burial in the Fairbank Cemetery. Public visitation on Monday, July 11, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

FRANCIS JOHN YOUNGBLUT

scan_pic0020Oran- Francis John Youngblut, 90, of Oran, died Friday, June 17, at Grandview Care Center, Oelwein of natural causes.

He was born February 27, 1921, in Oran, Iowa, son of Frank and Anna (Phillips) Youngblut.

He marrried Mary Ellen Klenzman on July 1, 1942 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, Iowa.  He was in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He had owned and operated the Youngblut Feed and Fertilizer for many years, then purchased the Elevator-Youngblut Elevator in Oran, IA. and operated that until he retired.

Survived by: his wife, Mary Ellen, four daughters: Barbara (Dennis) Yungtum of Waverly, Carol Youngblut of Fairbank, Marilyn (Larry) Briddle of Nelson, Missouri, Darlene (Bruce) Smith of Boonville, Missouri.  Six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by:  Five sisters, Agnes Youngblut in infancy, Mable Slater, Josephine Freitag, Margaret Chase, Helen Campbell. Three brothers, Leo Youngblut, Burton Youngblut and Lawrence Youngblut.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with burial in the church cemetery.   Military rites will be conferred by the Fairbank American Legion, Fortsch-Duffy Post 552. Public visitation on Monday, June 20, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Oran or Fairbank Fire Departments..

scan_pic0019Fairbank-Mary Elaine Miller, of Fairbank, died Tuesday, June 14, at Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, IA.

She was born  July 12, 1919, at Fairbank, Iowa, daughter of Thomas and Eva (Bond) Harn.

She Married Charles Miller on February 8, 1937 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Fairbank, Iowa.

Survived by: three sons: Ron (Joan) Miller and Tom (Barb) Miller  all of Fairbank,  Charles (Joan) Miller of Ft. Mojave, Arizona.  Eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one sister, Dorothy Mersch of Waterloo.  Many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by:  her parents, husband Charles, one brother George Harn.  Two sisters and brother in-laws, Eileen and Harold Corcoran and Clara and Louis Peters.

Services: at 10:30 a.. on Monday, June 20, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with inurnment in Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.

She was born  June 26, 1922 at Blakesburg, Iowa the daughter of Ronald and Marjorie (VanCleave) Robinson.

She married Lawrence (Bud ) Chase on June 26, 1946 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Survived by:  one son, Jim (Kathi) Chase, Reno, NV.; three daughters, Debbie (Larry) Brown of Naples, FL., Barb (Jim) Carufel of Woodbury, MN. and Mary Leigh (Dana) Cranston of Moore SC.  Seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  One sister, Lorraine Fairholm of Newport, MN.

Prececed in death by: by her parents,  husband, Lawrence (Bud), and one sister, Connie Aschbrenner, one grandson, Tim Chase.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17th at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at the funeral home with rosary at 4:30 p.m.

He was born December 18, 1937  at Valentine, Nebraska, son of Henry and Olive (Detgen) Grantham.

He married Karen Shannon on August 29, 1959 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, Iowa.

He farmed in the Hazleton area.

Survived by: his wife: Karen; mother, Olive Gade of Fairbank. Six daughters: Jean Ann (Robert) Henn of Hawkeye; Carolyn (Mark) Hemesath of Ridgeway; Linda (Chris Waterman) Taylor of Manchester; Shirley (Dan Brace) Grantham of Winthrop; Diane (Dean) Hughson of Winthrop; Kelli (Nick) Krum of Winthrop.  Seventeen grandchildren. Three sisters, Joyce Bratten and  Marilyn (Bob) Condry both of Vinton; Barb (Glenn) Hodgson of Dubuque. Two brothers, Howard (Clarice) Grantham of Hartford and Russell (Lori) Grantham of DeSota.

Preceded in death by: his father, Henry and three grandchildren.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with burial in the Church Cemetery.  Public visitation on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Preceded in death by:  his parents, one brother Harold, and one sister Madeline Kerns.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank with burial in I.C. Catholic Cemetery.  Public visitation from 3:00 to 7:oo on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the funeral home with Rosary at 3:30 and Scripture at 7:00 p.m.
