Wayne Siggelkow pic.Fairbank; Wayne Henry Siggelkow age 84, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Wayne was a successful farmer, an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and conservationist.

He resided on the Wapsie Circle S Ranch near Fairbank, Iowa all of his life, where he built his home featuring a room with a view of the prarie sunsets. Born January 12, 1929 to Emory and Mabel (Niebuhr) Siggelkow. He served in the Army Ready Reserve (active status) during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and transferred to the Army Reserve (rifle division) until 1957. Wayne married Arnola Wendland on June 26, 1955, and raised three daughters.

In addition to crops, his farming operation included hogs and cattle. Wayne introduced Scotch Highland cattle to Iowa and for many years maintained the largest fold in the midwest. One of his many passions was hunting, including expeditions to Alaska, Canada and the Western states during which he bagged a moose, caribou and a Kodiak bear with his antique muzzleloader. He was a great conservationist and steward of the land. He shared his love of wildlife and fishing with his eleven grandchildren. Wayne enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and several foreign countries.

Wayne was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Fairbank Historical Society, the American Legion, the Iowa 4-H Foundation and several agricultural, conservation and wildlife organizations. He enjoyed playing cards and hosting Fourth of July celebrations for family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arnola; daughters Carol (Steven) Risting, Indianapolis, IN; Jane (Jeffrey) Stautz, Indianapolis, IN and Mary Beth (Ravi) Alagar, Pittsburgh, PA; and eleven grandchildren; Jonathan and Jennnifer Risting; Amy, Andrew and Alan (AJ) Stautz; Saraswati, Rajan, Krishnan, Indra, Jaya, and Balaji Alagar; sisters Bernice Branon, Lucedale, MS and Norma Ivey, Willis, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fairbank, Iowa with burial in the Fairbank Cemetery with military rites conducted by Fortsch Duffy Post 552 of Fairbank. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 29 from 4-7 p.m. at Woods Funeral Home in Fairbank, Iowa and for 1 hour before services at the church.

James Goeller picture 2FAIRBANK- James W. Goeller of Fairbank, passed away Thursday, July 25, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born September 29, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Herbert and Dorthy (Lentz) Goeller.

Jim graduated from Wapsie Valley Community School in 1965 and Upper IOwa University in 1970.  He taught science and social studes and coached at West Branch Community Schools for four years.  He worked at Smitty’s Tire and Appliance, Cedar Falls for many years.  He then worked at Cedar Falls Schools as bus mechanic and bus driver.  He moved on to Oelwein Community Schools as transporation director, retiring in 2009.  Most recently, he drove school bus for Wapsie Valley Community Schools.

Survived by: his wife, Bonnie, one daughter, Kay of Des Moines.  Three sons, Robert (Nancy) of Fairbank, Gary (Sara) of Oelwein and John of Fairbank.  5 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents, a brother Douglas and a grandson, Michael.

Services: at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30th at St Peters Lutheran Church, Oran, Iowa, with burial in the Fairbank Cemetery.  Public visitation on Monday, July 29 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. Also one hour befores services at the church.

Ronald Steggall PhotoFairbank; Ronnie Steggall age 73, passed away Saturday July 13, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born on June 8, 1940 the son of Halley and Hazel (Fransham)Steggall in Waterloo. Ronnie married Marilyn Schares on May 4, 1963 in Fairbank at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He worked at Deere & Company for 33 years retiring on June 30, 1998.

Survived by; his wife, Marilyn, two daughters; Traci (Jeff) Magsamen of Janesville, Kelli (Bob Stueven) of Mizpah, MN. eight grandchildren; Jordan, Taylor and Jacob Boevers, Adnew and Mitike Stueven, Robert, Jerome and Katie Magsamen, one great granddaughter; Eden Magsamen and two sisters; Betty (Ray) Chase of Prarie du Chien, WI. and Pat Weyer of Warrensburg, MO.

Preceded by; his parents

Services; 10:30 am Thursday July 18, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Visitation; from 3-7 pm on Wednesday with a parish rosary at 3:30 pm.

Ronnie loved and lived life to the fullest with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours fishing and in the woods. His ever-present smile and sense of humor gained him a life full of great friends.

Joseph W. Miller

Joeseph Miller picFairbank; Joe Miller age 94 passed away Monday July 8 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

He was born on September 11, 1918 in Fairbank the son of Frank and Margaret (Nuebel) Miller. Joe graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1935 and was a member of the first graduating class of Loras College in Dubuque in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medic during WWII and also served in the Korean War.

He married Lois Rastatter on May 2, 1953 at St. Columbkille’s in Dubuque, IA. Joe owned and operated Miller Plumbing and Heating since 1945. His last day of work was July 1, 2013. He thoroughly enjoyed his days at the store visiting with customers, playing freecell on the computer and watching Chicago Cubs baseball. He was a member and former Chief of the Fairbank Fire Department, member of the Fairbank Community Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Fairbank Historical Society and was a usher and eucharistic minister at I.C. Parish.

Survived by; his wife; Lo-E, six children; Joe (Jeanne) of White Bear Lake, MN. Jane (Hal) Holder of St. Peters, MO. Pat (Lynn) of Fairbank, Greg (Shelli)of Davenport, Barb (Tim) Klopfenstein of Washington, and John (Jo) of Davenport, one sister-in-law Lillian Miller of Detroit, MI. 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.

Joe lived a life of service to his faith, family and community and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Preceded by; his parents and step- mother; Gertrude Miller, three brothers; Paul (Jule) Miller, Frank Miller Jr. and Arnold (Mary Jo) Coffin, three sisters; Margaret (Leonard) Duffy, Mary Schafer and Sr. Mary Francelyn Miller.

Services; 10:30 am Friday, July 12 at Immaculate Conception Church.

Visitation; Thursday July 11 from 3-7 pm with a K.C. rosary at 7:00 pm

Burial; Immaculate Conception Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Fortsch Duffy Post 552 of Fairbank.

Memorials; in lieu of flowers to I.C. Church or the Fairbank Fire Dept.

Hazel (Ziegler) Stoll picBrighton, CO. Hazel M. (Ziegler) Stoll formerly from Fairbank, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at her home in Brighton.

She was born December 11, 1934 in Westgate, IA. the daughter of William and Dorothy (Waligorski) Ziegler. She grew up on the family farm in Iowa, attending country schools and graduating from Oelwein High School in 1952. She also graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Upper Iowa University and entered the teaching profession. She taught in elementary schools in Cresco, Postville, Rawlins,Wyoming and taught at Oelwein Elementary School for 26 years before retiring in 1991. Hazel married Hank Stoll in 2006 and moved to Brighton, CO. where she was impressed by the view of Pikes Peak and the entire front range of the mountains from her home.

Survived by; her husband, one brother; Donald Ziegler of Oelwein, one sister; Darlene Holt of Wadena, one step-son; David Stoll of Lupton, CO. one step-daughter; Mardie Stoll of Brush, CO. seven step-grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded by; her parents, three brothers; Harold, Henry and William Ziegler and a sister-in-law; Faye Ziegler.

Services; 10;00 am Wednesday, July 9, 2013 at St. William Catholic Church in Fort Lupton, CO.

Memorial Service; 10:00am Saturday at Woods Funeral Home in Fairbank

Inurnment; after the service in the Fairbank Cemetery.

Delores M. Joyce PicOELWEIN-Delores M. Joyce of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Oelwein and the Fairbank area, died Thursday, July 4, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born on June 20, 1923 the daughter of Ernest and Martha (Hogan) Graves.          She married Richard Joyce on February 16, 1944.

She is survived: by four daughters: Patricia (Darrel) Bridges, Bondurant, Iowa, Kathy (Joel) Steinmetz, Victor, Iowa, Mary Jo (Jim) Even, Gilbertville, Iowa, Janet Witzenburg, Altoona, Iowa, and one son, Dan Joyce of Clermont, Iowa.  Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by: by her husband, Richard.  Three sons: Charles, Tim and Michael in infancy.  One daughter Barb.

Services at: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery.  Public visitation from 4:00 to & 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, at he funeral home. There will a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and Scripture Service at 7:00 p..m.

She was born on November 17, 1917 in Buffalo, Montana the daughter of George and Cora (McKinlay) Varney.

She married E.G. “Tod” Lehmkuhl on June 21, 1939 in rural Clay County, IA. He preceded her in death, she then married Herbert Albrecht on August 26, 1999 in Fairbank, IA. he also preceded her in death.

Survived by: four sons; Charles (Carolyn) Lehmkuhl of Pasadena, CA. Rev. Kurt (Janice) Lehmkuhl of Arlington, MN. Neale (Anne) Lehmkuhl of Bloomington, IL. and Gary (Gayle) Lehmkuhl of Fairbank, two daughters; Lois (Tom) Griffiths of Kailua, HI. and Chris (Rev. Tom) Rogers of Lake Forest, CA. 12 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren, one sister; Ruth Klunnenburg of St. Paul, MN. and a sister-in-law; Caroline Varney of Silver Bay, MN. she is also survived by her second husband, Herb Albrecht’s children and grandchildren.

Preceded by: her husbands, one daughter; Ruth Lehmkuhl, two sons; Timothy Lehmkuhl and Terry Lehmkuhl, two brothers; Arthur Varney and Charles Varney and a sister; Myrtle Varney.

Services: Wednesday June 26 at 2:00 pm at  the Lord of the Harvest Lutheran Church in Fairbank.

Visitation: Tuesday June 25 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home and for one hour before services at the church.

Dianne Parker photo  Cedar Rapids- Dianne Parker age 53 passed away Wednesday June 5, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics of pneumonia.

Dianne was born on September 9, 1959 in Anaheim, CA. the daughter of Richard and Frances (Boland) Ricklefs.

Dianne was a waitress for most of her adult life at many different restaurants around northeast Iowa.

She is survived by her son Brent (Bridget) Parker of West Union, two granddaughters; Brenna and Bristol Parker of West Union, three sisters; Marcia (Simeon) Tauber of Arcata, CA. Sheryl (Garth) Balthazor of Murieta, CA. and Victoria (Randy) Olson of Bend, OR. one brother; David Ricklefs of Milwaukee, Wi. her aunt Rosemary Boland of Hazleton and Uncle Delbert Ricklefs of Central City.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, a brother Donald Ricklefs, a nephew Ricky Balthazor and two uncles; Don Boland and Gayland Ricklefs and one aunt; Anna Ricklefs.

Services– will be on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 218 West 4th street in Vinton, Iowa.

Memorials– may be directed to the Cornerstone Baptist Church.

David Ross photo 2 David L. Ross age 65 of Fairbank, formerly of Iowa City passed away on Saturday June 1, 2013 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA. from complications of cancer.

David was born on September 1, 1947 in Waterloo, his parents were Willis (Bud) and Lenora (Hahn) Ross, they preceded him in death. He married Kyong Cha Song on May 27, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Fairbank. David served two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime employee of NCS Pearson in Iowa City formerly known as National Computer Systems, retiring in 2009.

Survived by; his wife, one daughter; Jennifer (Tim) Owens of Madison, WI. one son; Bryan Ross of Milwaukee WI. one brother; Lonnie (Laura) Ross of Fairbank, two sisters; Barb (Tracy) Gruetzmacher of Fairbank and Peggy (Steve) Niemann of Fredericksburg, one grandson; Ross Owens along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded by; his parents

Services; Friday June 7, 2013 at 10:30 am United Methodist Church in Fairbank. Public visitation on Thursday June 6 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home and for one hour before services at the church.

Burial; in the Fairbank Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Fortsch- Duffy Post 552 of Fairbank.

Patricia Curley Photo OELWEIN-Patricia Mae Curley, Oelwein formerly of Clayton and Fairbank, died Saturday, May 25th at Mercy Plus in Oelwein, after a brief illness

She was born on December 14, 1930 in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Louis and Wilda (Duffy) Meier.

She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School Fairbank and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa.  She worked as an elementary school teacher for almost 20 years and owned antique stores in Fairbank and Clayton, Iowa.  She also sold antiques in the Southern United States with her husband, Jim.  She was an avid Gardener in her homes in Oelwein, and especially on the banks of the Mississippi in Clayton.

She married James Gordon Curley on October 14, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank.

Survived by-four sons; Michael and Keith (Tammy) of Fairbank, Tim (Martha Saldinger) of Silver Spring MD, and Russell (Judy) of Hamilton, OH. One sister, Shirley Rechkemmer of Oelwein.  Eight Grand children and 8 great-grandchildren.

Preceeed in death by- her parents, her sister Helen Rath, and her nephew Rick Fuller.

Services: at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30th,at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with burial in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.  Visitation on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. scripture service.
