Fairbank: Ramona C. Menuey age 90 passed away Tuesday August 16 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. Ramona was born August 16, 1926 near Jesup, IA the daughter of John and Irene (Hess) Toussaint. She attended and graduated from Sumner Schools in Sumner, IA. After graduating from high school she worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo for about 7 years. Ramona married Donald Menuey July 27, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. She and Don made their home in rural Fairbank where they raised eight children. Ramona was a dedicated homemaker and mother and truly enjoyed both.

Survived by: four sons; Randy (Kim) of Fairbank, Steve (Connie) of Britt, Tony (Jo) Menuey of Dewar and Kerry (Melanie) of Fairbank, four daughters; Sandy (Mike) Tagtow of Fairbank, Diane (Garry) Damon of Dewar, Becky (Dave) Acker of Waverly and Brenda (Jim) Joynt of Waterloo along with 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Barb Toussaint of Sumner, Gerri Menuey of Florida and one brother-in-law; Archie Miller of Independence.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband, one grandson; Josh Menuey, two sisters; Marcella Wheeler and Veryl Schares and one brother; Vern Toussaint.

Services: 10:30 am Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm Friday August 19 at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank.

Parish Rosary: 4:30 pm Friday August 20 at Woods Funeral Home.

Burial: Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank.

Fairbank: Bonnie Meany age 91 passed away August 2, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, IA. She was born February 3, 1925 in Waterloo the daughter of Lester and Matilda (Hoyer) Jones. Bonnie attended Lincoln School and graduated from East High School in 1943, both in Waterloo. She married Richard Meany on October 23, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. After they were married they lived in Waterloo until moving to Fairbank in 1995. Bonnie worked for Iowa Public Service Company (now known as Mid-American Energy) for 44 years retiring April 1, 1987. She was a long time member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary , she also was a volunteer at Cedar Valley Hospice in Independence as well as the Fairbank Public Library.

Survivors: two nieces; Barbara Farmer of Vinton and Sally Shannon of Clearwater, FL

Preceded by: her parents, her husband and a brother Wallace Jones.

Services: 11:00 am Friday, August 5, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Visitation: 9:00-10:45 am Friday August 5, 2016 at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank

Fairbank: Mary Margaret Franck age 81 passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Sacremento, CA on June 11, 2016. Mary was born July 7, 1934 in Waterloo the daughter of Bernard and Veronica (Fischer) Nachtman, she married Kenneth Franck Sr. November 27, 1952 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank. Kenny and Mary had four children that they raised together in rural Fairbank. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church as well as a longtime member of the Fairbank American Legion Auxillary.  Mary enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, bird watching, cooking, fishing, playing cards and reading. She also loved spending time with her family.

Survived by: one daughter; Paula Cook of Sacramento, CA, three sons; Steve (Grace) Franck of Tripoli, Kenny Jr. (Dixie) Franck and Darrell (Wendy) Franck both of Fairbank, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceded by: her parents and step-mother; Myrtle Nachtman, her husband; Kenneth Franck Sr. a brother; Donald Nachtman. a sister; Ann Jones and a son-in-law Rick Cook.

Services: 10:30 am Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, June 29 at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank.

Inurnment: Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery

Memorials: in lieu of flowers the family requests book donations to the Fairbank Public Library.

Fairbank: Jack Howard Johnson age 82 passed away June 16, 2016 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. Jack was born January 17, 1934 in Urbana, IA the son of Ervin and Retha (Aurner) Johnson. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo. Jack married Geraldine Severtson November 15, 1952 in Fremont, NE after they were married Jack served his country in the U.S. Navy. Jack worked for John Deere in Waterloo at the Product Engineering Center for 30 years he then retired to do woodworking and established a small business known as Farmstead Creations. Jack was a “people person” and enjoyed arranging tours to Branson, MO for 19 years, DBA Farmstead Tour & Travel. He also enjoyed square dancing, camping and traveling by bus to Branson, but most of all Jack loved his family and friends and was especially proud of his grandchildren.

Survived by: his wife, Jerri, three daughters; Judy (Jim) Pettlon of Winthrop, Jackie (Chip) Hoffman of Walker and JoEllen (Mike) Smith of Greeley, CO eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with two more being born this year.

Preceded by: his parents and an infant grandson.

Services: 10:30 am Monday, June 20 at Peace Lutheran Church, Oelwein, IA

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 pm Sunday, June 19 at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank and for one hour  before services, Monday at the church.

Interment: Fairbank Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Fairbank American Legion Fortsch-Duffy Post 552

Charlotte Mae McGrane

Fairbank: Charlotte Mae McGrane age 83 passed away Tuesday, March 15 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, IA. She was born March 7, 1933 in Riceville, IA the daughter of Leo and Eleanora (Hendrickson) Tonn. Charlotte attended and graduated from High School in Elma. On June 4, 1953 she married Max McGrane at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma. Charlotte and Max made their home in Fairbank where together they raised three children. During her years in Fairbank along with raising their children Charlotte worked at many Fairbank businesses including Curley’s Locker, Ruby’s Café, Bel-Mar Drive Inn, she was a bartender at Ma’s Place, Hoss’s Saloon and the Fairbank American Legion and was also a sales consultant for Avon for many years. Charlotte was also a member of the Fairbank American Legion Auxillary. In her most recent years Charlotte enjoyed going for her daily rides around town with Max and also maybe a little gambling once and a awhile. Most of all Charlotte enjoyed being Grandma, she truly enjoyed and loved her family and will be truly missed by all of them.

Survived by: her husband; Max, one daughter; Barb (Wade) Brennan of Fairbank, two sons; Danny (Luan) McGrane of Cedar Falls and Dennis (Barb) McGrane of Fairbank, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one brother; Francis (Dollie) Tonn of Cedar Rapids and one sister-in-law; Gloria Tonn of Elma.

Preceded by: her parents, one brother; Louie Tonn, one sister; Shirley Teepe and one brother-in-law; David Teepe

Services: 10:30 am Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank

Fairbank: Jedidiah Gene Wilson age 22 passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident earlier that day. He was born September 15, 1993 in Waverly, IA the son of Gary and Theresa (Thomas) Wilson.

Jedidiah was raised on a farm near Oran. Jedidiah graduated from West Central High School in 2012. He earned his Associates degree in Agri-Business from Kirkwood Community College, where he served as President of the Agri-Business Club. Jed then returned to the family farm to farm alongside his parents and grandparents. Jed also managed Willie Beef Company. He was an active volunteer of the Oran Fire Department and had served his community for six years. Jed was currently serving as a board member of the Trail Blaz-zers Snowmobile Club.

Jed was loved for his quick wit, contagious smile, easy manner and his heart for all things fun. People were also drawn to his character of integrity and confidence, as well as his unique style which consists mostly of denim and plaid.

Jedidiah is survived by his parents: Theresa (Thomas)Wilson, Fairbank, Gary and CJ (Shannon) Wilson, Fairbank, one brother, Jared of Oakland, CA; two sisters, Rebekah, (Wes Wagner) of Sioux Falls, SD and Shannon Wilson, Fairbank;. Grandparents, Gene and Janice Wilson of Fairbank, and the love of his life, Jessica Cannon, daughter of Darryl and Jane Cannon along Jessica’s brother Adam all of Westgate, IA

Preceded in death by:  Grandparents Albert and Goldie (Cordes) Thomas, Waterloo.

Services:  10:30 am Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church, Fairbank.

Visitation: 3:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church and for one hour before services, Thursday also at the church.

Internment: Oran Township Cemetery with Honor Guard Ceremony performed by the Buchanan County Honor Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the Oran Volunteer Fire Department, the Trail Blaz-zers Snowmobile Club or to the family.

Karen Grantham

HAZLETON:  Karen Elizabeth Grantham, age 74, passed away on Monday December 28, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein.  Karen was born on May 27, 1941 in Fairbank, daughter of Herbert and Mary (Fraggrett) Shannon.  She graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School with the class of 1959.  On August 29, 1959 Karen was united in marriage with Robert Grantham at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank.  She was a homemaker along with working beside her husband on the family farm.  Karen enjoyed her immediate family and camp-outs at the farm.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by: her six daughters: Jean Ann (Robert) Henn of Hawkeye, Carolyn (Mark) Hemesath of Ridgeway, Linda (Chris) Waterman of Manchester, Shirley Grantham of Hazleton, Diane (Dean) Hughson of Winthrop and Kelli (Nick) Krum of Winthrop; her seventeen grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and one great grandson on the way; her sister Janice (Ralph) Stanek of Marion and her brother Jerry (Holly) Shannon of Fairbank.

Preceded by: her parents Herbert and Mary Shannon; her husband Robert; her brother Charles Shannon and three grandchildren: Anthony Robinson, Curtis Hughson and Olivea Krum.

Services: 10:30AM on Thursday December 31, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank.

Visitation:  4-7PM on Wednesday December 30, 2015 with 6:30PM Vigil Services at the Woods Funeral Home in Fairbank.

Burial: Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery at Fairbank.

Dunkerton: June Olive Cummings age 103 passed away Tuesday December 22, 2015 at ABCM Rehabilitation Center in Independence, IA. She was born June 25, 1912 in rural Black Hawk County the daughter of Gauis and Tena Marie (Brauer) Mosley. June married Clayton Cummings March 11, 1931 in Waterloo, IA. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother to their two children along with helping out with the many chores on the family farm. June was a wonderful cook and loved sewing and gardening.

Survived by: a son, Duane Cummings of Waterloo, and a daughter, Judy (Donald) Frahm of Wellsburg along with five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband, a daughter-in-law, Norma Cummings and four sisters; Vera Buck, Martha Pruenninger, Hazel Myers and Helen Bordor.

Services: 2:00 pm Saturday, December 26, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Dunkerton

Roberta M. Lorber

Oran: Roberta Mae Lorber age 96 passed away Tuesday, November 24 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, IA following a brief illness. She was born April 7, 1919 in Fairbank, IA the daughter of Oscar and Hana (Wierck) Lenius. Roberta married Leonard Lorber June 12, 1940 and celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death on January 13, 2001. Roberta graduated from Oran High School and she then attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After college she was a school teacher in a country school until she was married. Roberta and Leonard owned and operated Lorber Construction in Oran, IA for many years along with raising four sons. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank. Roberta loved her family, her home, cooking, quilting and crosswords.

Survived by: three sons; Roger (Mary) of Cedar Falls, William (Sally) of Laguna Niguel, CA, David (Denise) of Canton, MI and a daughter-in-law Lisa Lorber of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband, one son; Robert, two sisters; Lucille Rogers and Wilma Lorber along with a brother; Charles Lenius.

Services: 10:30 am Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fairbank.

Joyce L. Grimmius

Dunkerton: Joyce Lulu (Canfield) Grimmius age 87 passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Country View Care Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Joyce was born to Earl and Ferne (Bartholomew) Canfield on December 15, 1927 in Waterloo, IA. She was raised on the Canfield farm outside of Dunkerton. Joyce married Milford Grimmius on December 12, 1948 and they later divorced in 1961.

Joyce graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1945, she then attended the Iowa Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. After college she was a teacher in Rockford, Dike, Walker and Waterloo schools. After teaching Joyce was a co-insurance agent for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, Bartholomew & Grimmius Insurance Agency in Dunkerton, Iowa. Joyce was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton.

Survived by: her son, Bradley Grimmius of Waterloo, two grandchildren; Jennifer Conner-Mennenga (John) of Webb City, MO and Tiffany Edlund of Rawlins, WY, one great-step-grandson; Kyle Mennenga of Carroll, IA a great-granddaughter; Mia Mennenga of Webb City, MO, one brother; Bert Canfield of Waterloo, one sister; Jeanne Zey of Cedar Falls and a son-in-law; Dan L’Estrange of Prole, IA
