Condolences for CHARLES “CHUCK” WILLIAM FINCH
I’m sending my apologies that I’m not able to attend the services for Grampa Chuck. He was married to my Grandmother, Dorothy Story.
Time spent with Grandma Dorothy and Grampa Chuck was always fun. Chuck was full of fun and mischief. Stories of cherry bombs and time on the railroad.
Who can ever forget their dogs? The imfamous….Boy…. He was always was with them when they came to visit. Also Squirt, now that was a LONG TIME AGO. Back in the Stockton days.
It’s sad that time gets away from us and that we lost touch with him after Grandma died but he’ll always be part of great childhood memories. We corresponded on a limited basis via email when he was still in Ill. We did send several emails that never got a response so assumed he no longer had email access. We’re very sorry to hear about his death. We’d like to extend our sympathies to the whole family.
With love and fond memories
Mark and Karen Herron
My deepest sympathy to the family for your loss. Chuck was my uncle by marriage to my Aunt Dorothy. My mother, Alice is a sister to Dorothy. I remember Uncle Chuck as a very tall, kind man. My he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Barbara Skinner Hawbaker
I was sad to hear of his passing. He was married to my great grand mother Dorothy. He was a kind man with a love of fishing. He took me and my brother fishing when we were pretty young, having a young child I’m shocked that he undertook such a thing. He packed us a lunch and talked about the wingdams we’d be fishing and the sloughs. He also taught us how to make our own fishing lures. While I lost track of Chuck years ago when I relocated to Des Moines he will live in memories of his kindness. My sympathy to those dear to him. Rev 21:3,4 John 5:28,29
I’m sorry to learn of Uncle Chuck’s passing. The cousins were just talking about him on Facebook a short time ago, and wondering where he was. He was married to my Aunt Dorothy, my mom was her sister, Elaine. We always had a good time when we went to visit them in Stockton, and I have a picture of my parents on their 25th anniversary that Chuck took of them. Rest in Peace, Uncle Chuck.
Andrea,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this
difficult time. We love you.

My deepest condolences are extended over Chuck’s passing. He led a very long and productive life while working for the Chicago Great Western Railroad and after. Family members, relatives and friends should feel fortunate that Chuck was here as long as he was.
I am sorry to hear of Mr. Finch’s passing. I wrote to him several times over the years about the Chicago Great Western. I grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa, and had lots of questions about the CGW in Dubuque. He was very helpful, friendly and a pleasure to correspond with. He has helped so many of us who are interested the railway and he was generous with his memories and information. He will be missed by many of his friends on the forum.
Sincerely,
John Nelles
My sincerest condolances to the family of Mr. Finch whom I met when he lived in East Dubuque. I work in the transportation industry and at the time, 1989-1992, purchased one of his books. I regret not getting to know him better as we shared a common sense of experience in railroading, and I think I could have learned very much more. I hope he has enjoyed a long and fufilling life. God Bless. Sincerely, Michael L. DiPaolo, Harvard, Illinois. CC&P, C&NW, UPRR.
