Carson McGrane, age 12, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Fairbank. He was born on December 5, 2005 in Waterloo, the son of James and Jodi (Lindstrom) McGrane. Carson recently began a new school year as a seventh grader at Wapsie Valley Community Schools. He was a very loyal friend and role model to kids of all ages. He was an active member of the youth wrestling club at Wapsie Valley. Carson also enjoyed playing football, hunting and riding snowmobiles. Most of all, he was a hard worker on and off the wrestling mat and football field. He was always looking for something to do, but his true passion was mowing lawns for family and friends. Aside from sports and mowing, Carson enjoyed fishing and riding jet skis on the Mississippi River. In his spare time, he loved riding his bike and hanging out with his friends. There was nothing Carson didn’t like or didn’t want to try. He touched the lives of so many people, young and old.
Carson is survived by his parents James and Jodi, one brother Devin Ledesma of Ankeny, maternal grandparents; Jim and Annie Lindstrom of Oelwein, paternal grandparents; LuAnne and Lonnie Bibler of Waverly, Dan (Luan) McGrane of Cedar Falls, great-grandparents; Max McGrane of Fairbank, Duane (Suzanne) Lewis of Waterloo, many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his dog, Gizmo.

Our deepest sympathy to you and your family.
After teaching 20 years, you meet many children. They come and they go – some are trying, some are delightful, and some are downright inspirational. That’s what Carson McGrane was to me… downright inspirational. This former 2nd grader came into Wings Park as a new student, new to everything. He had to work extra hard to adapt to his new surroundings and expectations, and work hard he did! It was not long before Carson not only fit in to his new surroundings, but he stood out as a true friend to his peers. He was a silly, fun-loving 2nd grader- the way it should be. He had strong support from his parents- the way it should be.
I can’t fathom why this tragic accident happened – it shouldn’t be. I know we are supposed to believe there’s a reason. The only thing I can possibly come to terms with, is that Carson McGrane is the ultimate example of how a person should be, the way WE should ALL be. And he knew it at just 12 years old.
Sincere condolences and prayers to the McGrane family.
My deepest sympathies to your family. Prayers for strength to guide you at this most difficult time. RIP Carson
No parent should ever have to go through this. May God give comfort to his family and friends. Find comfort in knowing you will be together again one day.
Jodi James and family
Sending you love, hope, strength, and faith. You know how we loved Carson if he was here mowing, visiting, riding his bike or any number of other things. He was quite a guy and I will miss him. May God wrap you in his arms and help you not just this week but forever until as he promises you are reunited with this great young man. We know God is welcoming Carson and continues to love him. Carson is probably getting to know where he can help out most in Heaven. God bless you all!
Please accept my heartfelt sympathys… Often we wonder why? Only God has a plan. It tears us up, but, we must trust that he is up there, waiting for us to meet up again.
Love & prayers to all- Suzette (Hurst) Foster
Jodi, Devin and family…… Please accept my sincere condolences. My heart goes out to you and your whole family.
I had the privilege of learning of Carson’s dedication to family and wrestling and fishing when his Aunt Jill shared special stories of time spent with cousin Jack. This was just this summer, end of July.
I am heartbroken for everyone.
Please know I have been holding each and every single one of you touched by Carson’s loss up to God.
Thank you for sharing that Carson’s passion was mowing; it sounds like he truly mowed for others as a means of giving.
