Wayne Siggelkow pic.Fairbank; Wayne Henry Siggelkow age 84, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Wayne was a successful farmer, an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and conservationist.

He resided on the Wapsie Circle S Ranch near Fairbank, Iowa all of his life, where he built his home featuring a room with a view of the prarie sunsets. Born January 12, 1929 to Emory and Mabel (Niebuhr) Siggelkow. He served in the Army Ready Reserve (active status) during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and transferred to the Army Reserve (rifle division) until 1957. In addition to crops, his farming operation included hogs and cattle. Wayne introduced Scotch Highland cattle to Iowa and for many years maintained the largest fold in the midwest. One of his many passions was hunting, including expeditions to Alaska, Canada and the Western states during which he bagged a moose, caribou and a Kodiak bear with his antique muzzleloader. He was a great conservationist and steward of the land. He shared his love of wildlife and fishing with his eleven grandchildren. Wayne enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and several foreign countries.

Wayne was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Fairbank Historical Society, the American Legion, the Iowa 4-H Foundation and several agricultural, conservation and wildlife organizations. He enjoyed playing cards and hosting Fourth of July celebrations for family and friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arnola; daughters Carol (Steven) Risting, Indianapolis, IN; Jane (Jeffrey) Stautz, Indianapolis, IN and Mary Beth (Ravi) Alagar, Pittsburgh, PA; and eleven grandchildren; Jonathan and Jennnifer Risting; Amy, Andrew and Alan (AJ) Stautz; Saraswati, Rajan, Krishnan, Indra, Jaya, and Balaji Alagar; sisters Bernice Branon, Lucedale, MS and Norma Ivey, Willis, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Condolences for Wayne Henry Siggelkow

  1. Arnola & family,

I am so sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. I’m so glad you two made it to my 50th party last summer and shared in the event. I have such wonderful memories of the Siggelkow farm…spending many over nights there with Jane. I always felt like it was my home away from home, ham dinners, Schwan’s ice cream, the play house, the ATV, the pond & paddleboat, learning to ride a bike, swinging on the gunny sack swing in the barn, gathering eggs…oh the memories! Thank you so very much for all the good times. Wayne was a awesome man! You have all lost someone truly special, someone who made a difference, someone whose life is worth celebrating…may wonderful memories bring all of you some comfort. Thinking of you at this difficult time! Love & prayers, Lois, Steve, Tessa & Nicholas Snyder

  2. Arnola and family,

So many memories! Always enjoyed the twinkle in Wayne’s eyes when someone said something that amused him.

And, driving back and forth to Waterloo (and UNI), when we got to the Park and then your house, knew it was not so much further before we were home.

So grateful for all his giving. He was an amazing man.

    You have my deepest sympathy,

    Darlene (Fox) Reynolds

  3. Wayne is now with God and, I am sure, looking down on us hoping we work to carry on the causes he felt so vital to our society. I remember stories my dad used to tell about hauling the cattle. God will help everyone through this challenging time. I will keep you in my prayers.

  4. Arnola and family,

We are so sorry to hear about Wayne. It was so nice seeing you Arnola and Andrew a while back when we stopped at your place. I was just thinking of all of you yesterday and now today heard the radio about Wayne. We will hold a lot of memories from when we were all together. Wayne will be missed by all who knew him. Our Love, Dave and Sandy Jaschen

  5. Carol and Jane:

I just received word that your father passed away and I wanted to let you know how sorry I am for your loss.

Reading about him made me think back to my childhood growing up in a small town and the kind of work ethic that one must have to nurture livestock and take care of the earth.

I would say that your father probably was a very special person that did a great job of leading the way for his family.

My his memory be forever a blessing!

    Mike Wolinsky

  9. Carol and Family,

I just learned of the loss of your father/husband. Way back in 6th grade at Dunkerton, I recall a trip to your family home for a school conservation project and how impressed I was with your home, the pond, and the cattle — he certainly was a conservationist. Please accept my sympathy and prayers.
